Daughter finds father dead outside home northwest of Houston

HOUSTON – A man was found shot to death Thursday morning outside his northwest Houston home by his 14-year-old daughter, according to deputies.

The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m. at a home in the 5900 block of Bihia Forest Drive.

According to the daughter, she was inside the home and heard her father talking on the phone outside. She said she heard two gunshots, opened the garage and found his body.

Police said two black men in their early 20s approached Hector Ruvalcaba while he was standing in his garage. Within minutes, shots were heard and the men left the scene.

The daughter said her four siblings were also home at the time of the shooting.

"(They are a) pretty quiet family. Cool people," said Andre Cheeves, a neighbor. "They pretty much stay to themselves around this area and stuff like that. There’s quit a few young kids. I’m just glad the kids are OK."

Investigators said there did not appear to be much of a struggle, and they are still working to determine a motive.

The victim was identified as 37-year-old Ruvalcaba.

Deputies are still looking for the gunmen.

Anyone with information about the case should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
