HOUSTON -

A northwest Harris County family is unhappy and in fear after thieves broke in and stole valuable property from outside their home -- and they have the video to prove it.

The family -- who are afraid of retribution and asked us not to identify them -- spotted a pair of crooks last week on surveillance cameras set up outside their home.

You can see a male dressed in baggy white shorts and a t-shirt as he walks into the driveway, peers into one vehicle then turns his attention to the white work van. He breaks into the van, calls over his female accomplice, and calmly unloads $4,000 dollars worth of equipment. That equipment is how the male homeowner makes his living. He tells us the crooks were slick.

"As they came back on this side they just pretty much closed the door and just kind of closed it really lightly so that you can't hear," said the homeowner.

The video also shows the male thief move to the back of the van and steal from there as well. The crooks took about 15 minutes to remove all of the work equipment and place it in the trunk of their car, in which they eventually get in and drive away.

"We work hard for our stuff," said the female homeowner. "And just for someone to come in in the middle of the night when you're trying to get a good night's rest and just steal from you is just, it's devastating."

The family also spotted what appears to be another man looking at the vehicles in their driveway at 2 a.m. Tuesday. They saw him on their surveillance camera and called 911.

When deputies arrived the man had left the area and deputies said there was nothing they could do because no crime had been committed.
