HOUSTON - A man is accused of holding his four-year-old son hostage and keeping police at bay in northeast Houston.

Houston police said they were called to a home on Jordan Heights near Wells Forest around 10 p.m. Saturday for an assault in progress call. Once they arrived, police say a woman told them her ex-husband hit her with the butt of a gun, then grabbed their 4-year-old son and ran inside the house.

SWAT officers were called to the scene and began trying to talk to the suspect.

"After a couple hours of negotiations, he finally came out and complied with all verbal commands," said Marco Lopez, with the Houston Police Department SWAT Team.

Investigators said the child was found safe inside the home.

No word yet on any charges.
