HOUSTON - A Houston man was arrested after he allegedly committed an act of domestic violence.
Gregory Johnson is accused of attacking his live-in girlfriend with two machetes. Police said they rushed to a house on Green Falls Drive in northwest Houston on a "cutting call" and found Tamisha Naylor cut up. An officer said her right hand was hanging by a thread and one of her fingers was cut off.
In front of a magistrate judge Monday, a prosecutor from the Harris County District Attorney's office said, "The complainant tried to block the machetes with her arms. They had been dating for less than a year."
Police said her three teenage sons saw the attack and said that Johnson told their mother, "You're going to die," and cut up her arms as she raised them trying to protect herself.
One of the sons said Johnson threatened him and his brothers, put the machetes in the garage and took off. The Houston Police Department said Johnson turned himself in to the Harris County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 7.
Neighbors said Naylor moved out of the home just a few days ago.
Johnson, 35, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $120,000. He is expected back in court in October for a health competency.
Court documents show Johnson was convicted of robbery in 2005 and assault in 2009.
