Construction worker arrested in deadly motel stabbing

Suspect told coworker he stabbed his roommate

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man who was part of a traveling construction crew was arrested at an east Harris County motel after deputies say he killed another worker.

It happened at the Palace Inn in the 5400 Block of East Same Houston Parkway North near Wallisville Road in East Harris County.

Deputies said the man they arrested told a foreman with the El Paso group that the man he was rooming with would not make it to the job site on Wednesday.

When the foreman asked the worker why, he revealed that he had stabbed his roommate to death.

The foreman called 911.

When Harris County deputies arrived, the suspect took off running.

"When deputies arrived on scene, the employee fled on foot, and after a short foot chase, one of our K9 units was able to take him into custody about a block from the scene," said Been Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they still do not know what lead to the stabbing, but coworkers said the two men had been arguing for days.

The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the hospital to be treated for the dog bite.

The construction crew was in town working at a pipe straightening business.
