4 charged in Houston cab driver's death

Four people are now in custody in connection to the shooting death of a Houston cab driver.

Houston police said 27-year-old Latoya Marie Palmer and 18-year-old Marquisha Anita Williams were arrested on Feb. 28 and charged with capital murder.

The two women and two men are accused in the killing of 52-year-old Donalvon Rhyne.

Rhyne was shot in front of the Camden Vanderbilt Apartments off Brompton near Holcombe on Feb. 21 while waiting to pick up another job.

"Due to their involvement, they are party to committing capital murder.  And all four individuals are charged with the offense," said prosecutor Justin Wood.

Police said Rhyne was robbed and then shot to death.

Rhyne had worked for United Cab for more than 10 years, and before that he was in the Air Force.

"Within 35 minutes after Mr. Rhyne was shot and killed, the suspects are on video, at a Walmart using Mr. Rhyne's debit card using it to purchase thousands of dollars of items," said Sgt. Warren Meeler of HPD's homicide division.

Houston police said two other suspects, 28-year-old Jock Quinn Wilson and 23-year-old Jermaine Palmer, were arrested and charged on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Police said further investigation identified Latoya Palmer, Jermaine Palmer's sister, and Williams as additional suspects in this case.

The family of one of the accused apologized outside court.

The victim's family has questions.

"I only want to know why would you do something like this with your life when there's so much else you could do?  Why waste it?" said the victim's daughter, Jessica Rhyne.

Police are looking for the weapon. They believed it was sold near Yellowstone Road on Feb. 23.

If you purchased that pistol from Palmer or Wilson please bring it to a police station or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
