HOUSTON -

A Houston mom was loading groceries into her car with her youngest son, when a thief snatched her purse out of the cart.

"My wallet was in there, my address, my house keys and everything was in there," said Tara Zaafran.

That petty crime quickly turned terrifying when about a week later, the thieves showed up in Zaafran's neighborhood, thankfully she lives in a gated community and they couldn't get in.

"I was terrified, absolutely terrified. I was afraid to leave my house for about a week, I didn't want to go out at all." said Zaafran.

Zaafran is now joining forces with other moms in Houston to prevent crimes like this from happening in the first place.

Crime Stoppers of Houston has just launched its newest group, called Mothers Against Crime.

The goal is education and teaching people how to protect themselves and their loved ones from becoming a victim, then going out into the community and spreading the word.

"At the end of the day we want to give information that the parents take home and discuss amongst themselves and their children," said Zaafran.
