CUT AND SHOOT, Texas -

Firefighters in Montgomery County put out two back-to-back fires.

The first fire started around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Emerson Estates Subdivision off Highway 105 East in Cut and Shoot.

When firefighters arrived at the home, a bedroom was on fire. A mother and her child made it out safely.

Investigators determined the fire was ignited by a child playing with a lighter on a bed.

A few minutes later, a mobile home fire was reported on FM 1484.

Firefighters with the North Montgomery County Fire Department responded to that scene.

The homeowner was not home when the fire started.

According to investigators, the homeowner said he left clothes running in the dryer and when he returned home a fire had spread throughout the home.

The home was determined to be a total loss and the investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing, investigators said.
