Crawling meat market burglars sought

HOUSTON – Three men are on the run after surveillance cameras caught them burglarizing several meat markets across Houston.

There is a giant hole in the wall where La Michoancana Meat Market employee Diego Lucio says the suspects broke through. Once inside, surveillance video taken in the early hours of Jan. 21 shows them crawling across the floor.

"I think they were trying to escape the security cameras," said Lucio.

But that plan didn't work out too well. When the trio banged open an employee office door, the camera got a clear shot of at least one suspect as they rummaged through drawers.

"I think they think money was inside, but we don't know where the money is. I don't know where the money is," said Lucio.

According to Harris County investigators, the suspects did end up taking a large amount of rolled coins from a location on Spring Cypress Road.

"All the time, I am looking for the people who we see," said Lucio.

He says now employees are on guard, especially since investigators believe the same trio also hit three other Michoancana markets.

In another video from Jan. 27, the suspects can be seen using that same trademark crawl after breaking into a market on Airline Drive. This time they only got away with lottery tickets. But they managed to get away and employees just hope they're caught soon.

"We're scared. Every morning when we enter the store the ladies in the kitchen come in very early every morning, so they're scared," said Vanessa Bautista.

The thieves are described only as three black males wearing gloves and hoodies.

Anyone with information about the identity or location of the suspects should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
