Crash outside Willowbrook Mall kills 1 man, seriously injures another

Driver charged with Intoxication Manslaughter

HOUSTON – One man died and another was seriously injured after a car crashed into a fence with concrete pillars at Willowbrook Mall.

Investigators said the driver of a BMW lost control in the parking lot of the mall at 7925 West FM 1960 around 3:25 a.m. Thursday.

Police said three men left the Baker Street Pub and drove around to the mall parking lot, but crashed when the driver, Asif Aejaz, 41, lost control and hit a curb.

The impact was very severe on the passenger's side of the car. The 35-year-old front passenger died at the scene. Another passenger who was in the back seat was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

Aejaz was not injured.

Police said all three had been drinking before the crash and Aejaz admitted to drinking at the bar. He was taken downtown for a mandatory blood test.

Aejaz was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The victim's name was not released.
