A car crash knocked out power to a northwest Harris County neighborhood Wednesday morning.

According to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, a speeding driver slammed into a major utility pole along Gears Road just before 2 a.m. and burst into flames. Deputies said the driver and passenger ran away, but one of them collapsed nearby. First responders took him to the hospital in unknown condition. The other person escaped.

CenterPoint Energy reported outages for about 300 people, until crews fixed the problem shortly after 6 a.m.
