Harris County Sheriff's deputies were investigating after a violent crash Friday morning.

Officers said a car was traveling west on the N. Sam Houston Parkway feeder road around 3:15 a.m.

According to investigators, the driver ran a red light at the intersection of E. Hardy Road and slammed into the back end of a pickup truck.

The car then ricocheted and slammed into a concrete pillar.

The force of the impact knocked the car's engine out of the vehicle and onto the roadway.

Emergency responders transported both driver to the hospital. The man who was driving the car was reportedly in stable condition. The driver of the pickup truck was only taken as a precaution.

Precinct Four deputies headed to the hospital to do a blood test and determine whether the driver of the car was intoxicated.
