Couple takes on daily fines for not covering up racist graffiti on home

STAMFORD, Conn. – The weekend before the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, an interracial couple came home to find the N-word spray painted across their garage door.

The city of Stamford, Connecticut, asked the couple to paint over the racial slur, but they refused.

The city is now fining the homeowners $100 a day until the slur is removed.

“I couldn't believe it. It's just an indication of how we've been treated in the neighborhood," said homeowner Heather Lindsay.

According to CNN, Lindsay’s lawyer said that the slur will stay up until the police find out who committed the crime.

Stamford’s Public Safety director stated there has been a full investigation, but there was not any witnesses to the matter.

As fines continue to accumulate, the couple stand their ground until they receive the justice they think they deserve.
