Couple crashes when robbers chase them

HOUSTON – Robbers chased a couple in a SUV in northeast Harris County until they forced them to crash, deputies said.

The crime started on Chrisman and Peach Leaf Street at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Officials said the husband and wife were minding their own business when a group of men stopped next to them, got out and tried to rob them at gunpoint.

The couple was boxed in, but the husband was able to back up and get away from the attackers, deputies said.

Investigators said the three suspects got back in their stolen pickup truck and started chasing the couple's white Kia SUV. Seconds later, the men purposely crashed into the SUV, forcing it to roll over near Thorne Stadium on Aldine Bender Road, a few blocks away.

Meanwhile, a group of Aldine ISD police parked nearby witnessed the incident and started chasing the suspects. The group tried to get away, but crashed on the Hardy Toll Road at Aldine Mail Route Road.

Deputies and officers caught up with the attackers. One suspect was apprehended at the scene. Two others escaped on foot. Investigators said they think they know their identities.

The wife was trapped in the overturned SUV and had to be rescued. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
