Couple charged after boy, 9, was forced to live in box

GALVESTON, Texas – A man and woman are facing charges, accused of forcing a 9-year-old boy to live in a small particle board box.

David Wieseckel has been charged with unlawful restraint of a child and two counts of injury to a child. He has already relinquished his parental rights. Linda Schwan, the boy's stepmother, has been charged with unlawful restraint of a child and injury to a child.

Last year, Wieseckel admitted to Local 2 that he forced his son to stay inside the 8 feet by 6 feet box.

"There was a room built for him so he wouldn't damage windows, rooms, wood and everything else," Wieseckel said. "It was his bedroom. He had everything in there. He had blankets, a bed, and he damaged it all, wrecked it all."

The Galveston County Police Department was first notified about the boy's living conditions when he ran away from home in July.

Wieseckel and Schwan were indicted in March. They were arrested in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
