Couple arrested for posing as doctors, performing surgeries in home
Yuri Lara, Karen Lara facing multiple charges
As families in a northwest Harris County neighborhood went trick-or-treating, many were also still coming to grips with what allegedly happened at the house on the corner of Cade Court and Cade Drive.
Deputies arrested and charged a husband and wife for performing an illegal breast enhancement procedure inside their home.
Yuri Lara, 34, and Karen Lara, 36, are both facing charges of practicing medicine without a license and possession of a dangerous drug.
Investigators were called after a 41-year-old woman was admitted to a hospital because her enhancements had become infected and abscessed. She told detectives she had been to the Lara's home for numerous cosmetic procedures, including breast augmentation, liposuction and fat injections.
Local 2 checked and neither of the Laras is a licensed physician with the Texas Medical Board.
Neighbors, who say the couple was quiet and stayed to themselves, are still shocked.
"I know pretty much everyone on the street pretty well but them, they're pretty new," says Kaitlyn Hooks. "I don't know when they moved in, but they seemed pretty private about everything. People often came and went in that house."
On the day of the couple's arrest, detectives say they also took from the home several medical devices and vials of the drug lidocaine, a drug which is used to numb patients.
"It's very surprising," says neighbor Perry Lucas. "I mean, it just goes to show you never know what's going on. You never know."
The Harris County Sheriff's Office posted a community message on its website because detectives believe there may be other patients who visited to Lara's home for procedures.
