Cops: 4-year-old shoots, kills self in accident

Cocaine, marijuana found in father's house, say investigators

HOUSTON – A 4-year-old boy accident shot and killed himself Sunday after finding his father's gun, according to authorities.

The shooting happened around 8:45 a.m. in the 13000 block of Northborough near Rankin Road.

"When the officers arrived here, they found the father of the child carrying the child," said Detective Fil Waters with the Houston Police Department. "He had called 911, and apparently the child had been shot one time."

Waters said both the father and the paramedics performed CPR, but 4-year-old Jaiden Pratt Calloway was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the father, 21-year-old Marquiez Pratt, ran into his apartment after handing Jaiden off to police. Authorities said they chased him and arrested him inside the apartment.

Investigators said they found marijuana, cocaine, scales, drug paraphernalia and a shot gun inside the home. According to authorities, Pratt said that he burglarized drug dealers to provide for his son and had stolen the gun.

Police said the child was visiting his father for the weekend and somehow got a hold of a glock 40 semi automatic.

Pratt is facing charges for endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. Authorities said more charges could follow.
