Copper thieves hit abandoned downtown building

HOUSTON – Copper thieves targeted an abandoned city building in downtown Houston.

Houston police received a call from a passerby who spotted two men inside the old City of Houston Code Enforcement Building in the 3400 block of Main at Francis at 10 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found copper piled up at the fence, which was cut to gain entry. The suspects ran off.

Police searched the premises but did not find anyone.
