Controversial tweet was 'unfortunate timing'

A controversial “reap what you sow” tweet that was sent out hours after the shooting massacre in Orlando has been deleted.

Sunday morning Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick tweeted a photo with a quote from Galatians 6:7. It read, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

It was immediately followed with backlash across the social media platform, with many groups calling for an apology.

“Unfortunately, Texans in mourning for our families in Florida woke up to an embarrassment from their lieutenant governor,” Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa says. “Lt.Gov Dan Patrick, please apologize immediately. Make this right. We are better than this.”

Representatives from Patrick’s office said the social media post was scheduled last Thursday and was not done in response to Sunday morning’s tragedy.

“We regret the unfortunate timing of these posts and ask everyone to join us in praying for the people of Orlando at this awful time,” representatives for Patrick said.

The tweet happened after approximately 50 people were killed inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Florida, and at least 53 were hospitalized.
