TEXAS CITY, Texas -

A controlled burn at the Texas City Prairie Preserve filled the skies with smoke on Tuesday afternoon.

According to its website, the area, located on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay, is home to one of the last two remaining populations of the federally endangered Attwater's Prairie Chicken.

Local 2 viewers sent us pictures of the smoke billowing into the skies above.

From Sky 2 aerials, it appears as if the controlled burn is finished as of 3:30 p.m.

The Office of Emergency Management also told Local 2 that flaring was happening at the Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery at around the same time, but there was no danger to the public and no shelter-in-place was issued.
