University of Texas regents have approved a 5-year contract for new Texas men's and women's track coach Mario Sategna, and a raise and extension for volleyball coach Jerritt Elliott.
Sategna's contract pays him about $242,000 annually plus incentives. A 10-year Texas assistant, he was hired to lead both teams after women's coach Bev Kearney was forced to resign January and men's coach Bubba Thornton later announced his retirement.
Kearney was suspended in November 2012 after revelations of an improper relationship with one of her athletes in 2002. She has filed state and federal civil complaints against the university.
Elliott's team won the 2012 national championship. He was granted a 2-year extension to 2018 with a raise to about $290,000 plus bonuses and annual raises.
