Constables: Gunmen threaten woman's dog

ATASCOCITA, Texas – Investigators said two men forced their way into a woman's apartment and pointed a gun at her dog.

It happened early Thursday morning at an apartment in the 19700 block of Atascocita Shores Drive. Investigators said the crooks knocked on the front door, and when the woman answered, they forced their way inside.

The woman told police the invaders then pointed a pistol at her pet dog and said they'd kill it.

The woman put the dog away and allowed the crooks to search the rest of the apartment. Constables said they got away with $1,000 in rent money, an X-Box gaming system and a cell phone.

Desiree Smithlea lives nearby, and she said this kind of crime is terrifying.

"To know that somebody would want to kill your only friend. You're single, you're staying there by yourself and that dog is your companion," said Smithlea.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constables said they're urging people to pay special attention to their home and other surroundings. Especially as the holiday season approaches.
