Police have arrested two suspects connected to a carjacking that took place Thursday in the parking lot of a Walmart in Conroe.
The aggravated robbery took place Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Walmart, located at 1407 N. Loop 336 W.
Police said a man carjacked a 2005 Dodge pickup truck from an 80-year-old man at gunpoint. Officials said there was also a handgun in the truck that belonged to the victim.
Conroe police investigators recognized the robbery was similar to a robbery that occurred on Monday at 2900 N. IH 45.
Investigators were able to identify an accomplice's vehicle and tracked down the owner of the vehicle, police said.
Interviews and further investigation led to the identity of a suspect and possible location of the stolen vehicle and suspects.
Investigators requested the assistance of the Brownsville Police Department and Brownsville Auto Theft Task Force, who police said apprehended the suspects in the Brownsville area.
The suspects were identified by Conroe police as 33-year-old Christopher Mathison and 23-year-old Terran Gunter.
Mathison and Gunter are currently being held in Brownsville on charges of theft.
Police said Mathison is also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Investigators believe Mathison and Gunter are involved in several robberies and car thefts along IH 45, including the aggravated robbery of a 70-year-old woman at PetSmart, located at 2900 N. IH 45.
Police said further investigation and charges are pending.
