Community turns out to 'back the blue'

Hundreds of people from across the area turned out for a caravan ride Sunday to show their support for the men and women in blue.

A group gathered in New Caney during the morning to make the trip to La Marque, showing their support along the way.

Nearly 300 people showed up with their motorcycles, trucks and cars to create a caravan to"back the blue."

They picked up even more drivers along the way. Allen Taylor, who organized the event says she was really impressed with the turnout.

“I’m impressed we had people waiting on the side of the road, waiting for us to come through and jump on,” Taylor said. “People were going on miles, and miles behind us. I was real impressed.”

The crowd was escorted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office all the way to La Marque where an event was held to show support for the officers.

The event included a car show and live music.

Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle said he is thankful for the support he saw.

“It reminds the officers that they do have the public's support despite any of the other stuff that is out there,” Carlisle said.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to the families of the Dallas police officers killed in an ambush early this month.
