Community activists call for Texas Rangers to take over Deputy Goforth murder investigation

HOUSTON – Community activists held a press conference Sunday afternoon about recent developments in the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Quanell X is calling for the Texas Rangers to take over the investigation into the death of Deputy Darren Goforth, saying the Sheriff's Office has botched the investigation and cannot deliver unbiased justice. He said the actions of three Harris County Sheriff's deputies have been disgraceful and have destroyed any credibility the Sheriff's Office may have had in the case.

Since October, three Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies with links to the mistress of Goforth have been terminated. Two were fired just last week.

Deputy Marc De Leon is accused of sleeping with the woman while on the job. It allegedly happened before Goforth was killed.

Deputy Jason Goodrich is accused of "inappropriate communications" with Goforth's mistress.

Back in October, investigator Craig Clopton was fired for having a sexual relationship with her during the Goforth murder investigation.

Quanell X also insinuated that there may be more to the murder case, and that once Shannon Miles, who is accused of killing Goforth and was ruled incompetent to stand trial this past week, is stabilized, those new facts will come out.

Quanell X is asking that the murder trial be moved outside of Harris County, where he believes Miles will get a fair trial.
