Clute man fatally shot by Freeport police

Investigators say the officers were responding to a call of gun shots coming from a red vehicle

FREEPORT, Texas - Police said a Clute man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Freeport.

According to investigators, Freeport police officers responded to a call of gunshots coming from a red vehicle Tuesday night.

Freeport city leaders said when police arrived, the man inside began shooting at them, so the three responding officers returned fire.

The man, later identified as 35-year-old Joel Ledezma Ramos, died at the scene.

No officers were injured during the shootout.
