Clerks fight back against robbery suspect

Jaron Plair-Hines charged with aggravated robbery

SUGAR LAND, Texas – A man with a gun tried to rob a Sugar Land corner store, but clerks fought back, investigators said.

Surveillance footage from May 29 shows a man attempting to rob a corner grocery off Eldridge and Greenway in Sugar Land.

A clerk who pretended to be helping the armed man by collecting the money maneuvered behind him. The clerk then struggled with the suspect, who had a loaded gun.

Two other employees soon joined the fray and, off camera, one of them got a hold of the gun and shot the robber in the back.

Police have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Jaron Plair-Hines. He's facing three counts of aggravated robbery.

A source close to the investigation said the suspect is paralyzed from the waist down.

He's free on $100,000 bond, and has a court date in August.

Fort Bend County investigators have so far declined to press charges against any of the clerks.
