Clear Lake family recovering after fatal New York crash

HERKIMER, N.Y. – Police in New York are investigating a deadly accident that involved a Clear Lake family.

Troopers said Jennifer Hodson, 42, was driving down Interstate 90's eastbound lanes Sunday afternoon in central New York, near Herkimer.

The family was traveling from Cicero, NY to the Boston area when the crash occurred. Officials said the van crashed into the median and overturned several times.

Family friend, Rebecca Busselberg, said the accident was "really shocking because she is such a great driver, having traveled with her on many occasions".

Family members said Hodson, of Clear Lake, is listed in good condition at Upstate University Hospital. Hodson's husband, Kent, told Local 2 that his wife has had several surgeries on her arm and is expected to be released at the end of the week.

Their seven children, ranging in ages 4 to 16, were injured in the crash. The Hodson's 13-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter are hospitalized and listed in critical condition. Their five other children were treated at hospitals and have been released.

The family said Hodson's mother, 67-year-old Tanya Evans, of Annandale, Va., died in the crash.
