HOUSTON - A brave postal worker was honored Tuesday for what he did when he came across a house on fire.
Danny Thompson was filling in for a sick coworker on June 26. The route took him to the 2800 block of Tidewater near Rocky Springs about 9 a.m.
Thompson walked past a home and noticed smoke billowing from the air-conditioning unit. After a second pass, he took action.
"I knocked on the door and got the children out of there," he said.
Thompson rescued a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl who were home alone.
"I just think I was in the right place in the right time," he said. "Any citizen of Houston could have done the same thing if put in that place."
Houston City Council members and Mayor Annise Parker proclaimed Tuesday Danny Thompson Day.
