The Houston City Council has approved a tentative agreement that would end emergency service cutbacks in the Houston Fire Department.
The agreement takes care of short-term overtime problems within the department.
Under the deal, no more than 35 firefighters can take an unscheduled day off without the possibility of rolling service brownouts.
The tentative agreement will run through the end of June.
The City and the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association are still working on the details of a three-year contract that would begin July 1.
