HOUSTON -

Citizens who report to jury duty in Harris County will receive a pay increase.

The Harris County District Clerk’s Office has announced that jurors will be paid $40 a day, a third more than they have been receiving.

District Clerk Chris Daniel said the pay hike will increase the incentive to come to jury service, especially among some groups such as part-time workers, homemakers, retirees and the unemployed.

Daniel said he hopes he hopes that fewer people ignore requests for jury service.

An official announcement will be made Tuesday, during the Harris County Commissioners Court meeting.
