As the temperatures rise, most parents know that you need to rub the kids down with sunscreen before you send them out. However, what about protection for their eyes?
Believe it or not, some sunglasses can do more harm than good.
According to Travel & Leisure Magazine, decode the label.
Some stickers may say UV protection, but don't specify how much. You want glasses that will provide 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB ray protection.
Also, be careful with how dark the lenses are.
Gray, deep green, or brown lenses filter visible light, but do not necessarily block UV rays. In fact, some ophthalmologists say dark lenses without full UV protection make pupils dilate, letting in more ultraviolet radiation.
Also, with children, go shatter-resistant. Kids can be rough on glasses.
You will also want to go with lenses that shield as much of the eye area as possible. Those special shapes are cute, but not practical.
