Children locked in bedroom while parents go to work, police say

HOUSTON – Two people have been charged with endangering a child after leaving their three children in an apartment bedroom while they went to work at McDonald's.

Christopher Buchanan, 24, and Sheena Hunt, 26, locked their 7-year-old son, 3-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter in a bedroom without adult supervision, without proper food and liquids and with access to a firearm and a knife, according to court documents.

The 2-year-old, who was found in a soiled diaper, threw her sandals out the window of the third-floor apartment window, police said. Her 7-year-old brother climbed out of the bedroom window, out to the third-story railing and down the side of the apartment building to get the sandals on the ground floor, according to police.

After retrieving the sandals, the boy realized he couldn't get back inside the apartment, so he went to a nearby store and called 911, police said.

When officers arrived, the children told them they were inside and alone for several hours.

The children were given to Child Protective Services.

Buchanan and Hunt posted a $5,000 bond.
