Liberty County deputies responded to a near drowning on Sunday at a home where a 2-year-old boy climbed into a pool.
Deputies say a members of a family were having a barbecue in their backyard and they were swimming in a 3-foot plastic pool above ground.
Family members told deputies that they went inside after eating and removed the pool's ladder. However, they said the boy somehow managed to get back into the pool when no one was watching.
When the family went back outside to look for the boy, one family member found him in the pool and pulled him out.
Deputies said the boy's parents took him to the hospital, but on the way there they stopped along Highway 90.
The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department personnel then met the family along the highway and performed CPR on the child.
Liberty County EMS arrived shortly after and continued to conduct CPR until Life Flight arrived and took the boy to the hospital.
Deputies said the child was at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston on Sunday night. They have not released any information about the boy's condition at this time.
