Celebration of life planned for Mayor Turner's late brother

HOUSTON – Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s brother Alfred “Charles” Turner passed away last week.

A celebration of Charles’ life is set for May 7, at Paradise Funeral Home at 10401 West Montgomery. Viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the funeral at 1:30 p.m. Following interment, the Turner family will meet with friends at the Beulah Ann Shepard Building, 6112 Wheatley.

Charles was born in 1947 and was named Alfred but everyone knew him as Charles. He was a standout student at Carver High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then returned to Acres Homes.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

Mayor Turner thanks everyone for their condolences. In lieu of flowers, the mayor asks that donations be made in Charles’ name to the Greater Houston Storm Relief Fund.
