A 2-year-old boy and his 1-year-old brother have been placed with relatives while Child Protective Services investigates allegations of child abuse.
The boy's mother was recorded by surveillance cameras beating the 2-year-old and slamming him to the ground. Witnesses told Local 2 she dragged him across the concrete and up a flight of stairs. She was reportedly upset because the boy wandered away from her.
The video has been seen by CPS case workers and they are now investigating the case.
The incident happened in north Houston at the Willow Green Apartments on Willow Place Drive North.
"I was like, 'hey, hey, hey, don't hit him like that, that's a baby,'" said one neighbor who witnessed the attack. "He was screaming and holding his head."
She said the mother was also hitting him in the face, repeatedly.
"She kept picking sticks off the ground and literally kept hitting in the face."
A group of mothers who were standing nearby saw the beating and called police. One mom said she was so horrified by what she had witnessed she spent the rest of the afternoon crying in her apartment.
A CPS spokesperson told Local 2 the boys spend Thursday afternoon at the hospital being examined by doctors and will stay with family members indefinitely while they continue to look into the allegations.
