WEBSTER, Texas - Police are searching for a man who pretended to want to buy jewelry but really just wanted to steal it.
Webster police said the man walked into the Zales Outlet in the 1200 block of West Bay Area Boulevard on Sept. 3 and asked to see some engagement rings.
Detectives said the man was seen on video looking at various rings while other customers were also being helped.
The man was supposedly debating between two rings to buy, but he took off with both of them, investigators said. The rings were valued at about a total of $20,000, officials said.
Police said the same man may be responsible for a heist at another Zales store in Houston.
The man was described as black, in his late 30s, 6 feet tall and 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, blue jeans and a New York Giants baseball cap.
Detectives said the man left the store in a gray Kia Optima.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
