HOUSTON -

Residents of a house in southwest Houston will return home to an unpleasant surprise Friday evening.

Police said a man drove his car into a house at Bellaire Boulevard and Burning Tree Drive.

A witness told authorities that the man was speeding, hit a truck and drove into the house.

Investigators on the scene said the driver told officers he panicked after hitting the truck, and hit the gas instead of the brakes.

The driver had an injured arm after the crash, according to police. There were no people inside the house at the time of the accident.

Police said the driver will be cited for failure to control speed and failure to maintain a single lane.

Three pedestrians have been killed so far this year along this same stretch of Bellaire under construction.
