HOUSTON - Workers pulled a smashed-up Chevy Camaro from inside the Raintree Academy Day Care Center Sunday night.
Police said three men were inside the car as it was traveling east on Treaschwig Road when the driver lost control and slammed into a culvert before going airborne and crashing through the front wall of the building.
The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. The car entered the building so violently that it blasted out a plate-glass window and destroyed dozens of children's toys.
The day care has been in Spring for more than 30 years and has an enrollment of more than 130 children from ages 2 to 12.
Normally, the area where the accident took place would have been packed with children, but the day care was closed at the time of the crash.
Police said the three men inside the car fled on foot, some of them bleeding from injuries. They reportedly walked to Houston Northwest Medical Center for treatment, where nurses called the police.
The men were treated and taken into custody by investigators with the Precinct Four Constables Office.
The owner of the Raintree Academy spent Sunday night cleaning up debris and said the day care will be open at 6:30 Monday morning.
