Business owner shot during robbery

HOUSTON – A business owner got into a shootout with a man in the parking lot of a northwest Harris County strip mall, detectives said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said shots were fired in the 9600 block of F.M. 1960 West near Perry Road shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday.

Detectives said the business owner had returned from a bank and was getting out of his car when a man approached him and robbed him at gunpoint.

The business owner was wounded and taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. His condition was not released.

The business owner was able to return fire, but investigators said they don't know if the robber was wounded.

Investigators said the robber got away in a gold-colored Buick Century. A description of him was not released.

There is a day care center inside the shopping center. Officials there said the day care was locked down and none of the children were harmed.
