Bush Intercontinental Airport worker accused of stealing $40K

HOUSTON – A Bush Intercontinental Airport employee is off the job and in trouble with law after being accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars.

Sources say the theft started in September 2013. The Houston Airport System employee, who works in the Office of Business Opportunity, allegedly took advantage of her position and funneled more than $40,000 into her own bank account.

Sources say she was able to do this because the checks were made out to the 'City of Houston' but to the attention of the employee.

A few weeks ago, airport management confirms a co-worker thought something didn't seem right and contacted the bank. That's when sources say it was determined city checks were going into the personal account of the employee in question.

Bush Airport officials released a statement saying, "There is an ongoing investigation into allegations of financial wrong doing. We are cooperating fully with Houston Police."

The woman in question, who we are not identifying because official charges have not yet been filed, is still a current employee, but off the job on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Because of this investigation, there are now many questions about the possible lack of safeguards in place that potentially allowed something like this to go for so long.
