Burned puppies left at dog day care

Both puppies badly burned by some type of chemical

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after two dogs were dropped off at a dog day care with severe burns.

It happened Wednesday afternoon at Pet Paradise Resort in the 7500 block of Monroe Road.

Surveillance cameras captured a man dropping off two boxes at the front door. One box contained a pit bull puppy with burns so bad, she is now blind.

The other box contained another pit bull puppy with burns so severe, the veterinarian had to euthanize it.

“It’s mind-blowing that someone could do this. It makes me very mad,” said Robin Hauptman, a manager at Pet Paradise who found the dogs.

She took them to a vet, who said the dogs had been burned by some sort of chemical.

“They said it’s the worst thing they've ever seen,” Hauptman said.

Hauptman said she now plans to keep the dog who survived, who she nicknamed Noel.

The surveillance video shows the man who dropped the dogs off driving a late model red Dodge four-door pickup with an extended cab. It has tinted windows on the back windows and no tint on the front windshield.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $6,000 reward for any information. If you know something, call Houston police or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
