Burglary suspect dies after running from police in Hedwig Village

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old burglary suspect died after running from police in west Houston Tuesday, officials said.

According to police, three men were trying to steal an ATM from a Bank of America in the 8900 block of Gaylord in Hedwig Village. When officers arrived, the three men ran. An officer chased one of the suspected burglars into a drainage ditch where he gave up and said he was having trouble breathing.

Officers helped the man out of ditch. He was taken to the hospital but died on the way, police said.

One of the suspects escaped police and is on the run. A third suspect was caught and arrested.

Police continue to investigate.
