HOUSTON – Residents in a south Houston neighborhood have been terrorized by a rash of burglaries.
"They kicked down my front door," Kimberly Johnson said.
Johnson said her home in the Autumn Glen subdivision has been broken into twice in 10 months.
"My alarm was on, but that didn't deter them," Johnson said. "They came right in, took TV, games, PlayStation, iPod and left right out of my house -- in broad daylight."
Three car burglaries have also been reported in the neighborhood in the past 30 days.
The subdivision is jointly patrolled by the Houston Police Department and the Harris County Precinct 7 Constable's Office. Residents also have a private security patrol for six months of the year.
Johnson said that crime goes up dramatically when that private patrol isn't running.
"I'm so upset with the repeat attacks and repeat break-ins," Johnson said. "It's a violation … working hard every day and it feels like no one is doing anything about it."
Johnson said law enforcement has promised to step up patrols, but haven't followed through.
"I don't remember saying we're going to increase patrols," Precinct 7 Constable May Walker said.
Walker said she doesn't have the resources available to patrol the road more.
Houston police said manpower issues also prevent them from increasing patrols.
"We're homeowners and we have made investments in our homes," Johnson said. "We pay taxes, so we need to come together and work a little bit harder to protect our investments."
