Burglars target home in broad daylight

HOUSTON – Houston police are looking for the crooks who broke in to a home in the Upper Kirby district and got away with all of the homeowner's television sets, an expensive bracelet and sound system.

Homeowner Barbara Winston said she left her home in the 3100 block of Ferndale about 2 p.m. for about two hours to run some errands on March 12. Her dog was also away from the empty house.

When she got home, it took her a few minutes to realize something was amiss.

"The first thing they did was come through my bedroom door and kicked it in," said Winston. "I looked up and my television was gone and it was a large flat-screen."

She believes the crooks were probably watching her home and knew when she was coming and going.

The area is booming with home construction and work crews and lawn maintenance workers are always in the area.

Private security and Houston police patrol the area, but it hasn't stopped the break-ins, said Winston.

"I know a woman across the street came home and found a burglar in the yard. I've heard about others but I don't know for sure," said Winston

She said the break-in at her home left her feeling dazed and violated, but now she is back to her normal self.

"Everybody wants me to get security, but I don't want to live in a prison and I'm not going to," she said.
