Burglars caught on camera in west Harris County

Duo caught on video tried to break into man's home

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Two young men were caught on camera trying to break into a home in West Harris County.

The incident occurred last Friday around 8:45 pm at a home on the 19000 block of Azalea Brook Way, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The video, taken by a hunting camera set up in the backyard, appears to show two young men looking for a way inside the house.

One of the men tries, unsuccessfully, to break the back door window with a hammer.

"Then they immediately went to the master bedroom window and they were able to enter through there," said the homeowner who wished to remain anonymous.

"They just pried it (open) and were able to remove the hooks that are latched on to the top."

The homeowner says that they dropped the hammer and one of them went inside the house.

He said one of them took a couple of watches, his coin collection and some family jewelry, while the other served as the lookout.

The burglar wasn't inside long, the homeowner said, before the alarm scared them off.

"Thank God I just got an alarm," the homeowner said. "If it didn't go off, they would've probably got their hands on a lot more stuff."

He said that he's also thankful no one was hurt.

"It could've been a lot worse," he said. "If I was home and they would've entered, they would've gotten killed or hurt really bad by a gun. We live in Texas. We love our guns and we got cameras."

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
