Burglar caught running away from family's home

HOUSTON – A man faces burglary charges Wednesday morning, after police said he broke into a home while a woman and her three kids were sleeping inside.

Houston police said the homeowner woke up just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday to the sound of a man kicking in her back door.

She immediately dialed 911, and an officer quickly responded to her call.

Police said the officer arrived at her home on Galaxy Street, and found that the suspect was still inside, rummaging through drawers.

The burglar bolted out the back door of the house, and the officer chased the man through the Northeast Houston neighborhood.

The officer was able to catch up with the thief when he accidentally tripped and fell.

The burglar didn't get away with any valuables.
