Brush fire threatens homes in Liberty County

West Liberty County, east Montgomery County firefighters battle brush fire

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A wild fire burning in the Plum Grove area is now out after firefighters from west Liberty County and east Montgomery County spent all day Saturday trying to get the flames under control.

Officials believe the fire began Friday with just a pile of brush that was left unattended by a developer in the area.

At around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, crews started getting calls about the fire since it was threatening several homes in the area.

Fire crews from 11 different departments worked to get the flames under control. Around 8 p.m. Saturday, the fire was out. It burned about 50 acres.

With no rain and the very low humidity in conjunction with the winds, brush fires are breaking out throughout the surrounding counties.
