Search continues for missing Rosenberg escapee

Officials say Cortley Deshawn Blackmon is considered dangerous

ROSENBERG, Texas – A 28-year-old man remains missing after escaping Saturday from a Department of Public Safety substation.

DPS officials said Cortley Deshawn Blackmon ran out a substation on FM 2218 at Avenue N in Rosenberg on Saturday evening.

DPS officials said Blackmon was originally pulled over for speeding in Fort Bend County. Blackmon was arrested after a check of his driver's license showed two felony arrest warrants for bail jumping and failure to appear in court.

DPS officials wouldn't say exactly how Blackmon escaped, only that he ran out of the substation with his hands cuffed in front. He was last seen wearing a black sweater and black shorts.

An active search for Blackmon was called off Sunday evening. Rosenberg police believe that Blackmon may have left the area, saying he is possibly trying to make his way to family members in Bay City or Freeport.

So far, there have been no reported sightings of Blackmon.

DPS officials said Blackmon should be considered dangerous. State records show that Blackmon has a prior record for criminal mischief, marijuana possession and assaulting a family member.

Anyone with information on Blackmon's whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 800-252-TIPS.
