HOUSTON -

A family is mourning after a loved one tragically drowned in a Montgomery County lake early Tuesday.

Signs posted around the area in the Royal Lakes subdivision say it’s a “fishing only” lake and no swimming is allowed, but a 20-year-old, his brother and two others decided to go for a swim around 1 a.m.

“Four individuals – two males and two females—came out here for a swim and were attempting to swim to a floating platform in the middle of a lake,” said Sgt. Paul Hahs, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

At some point, the 20-year-old began to experience trouble. He went under and did not come back up.
One girl swam back to get her cellphone and called for help. The victim’s 19-year-old brother was too traumatized to get back into the water and had to be rescued from the platform, Local 2 has learned.

There were no signs of foul play, authorities said.

“It appears to be an accident, there was no indication of alcohol or drugs involved,” Hahs said.
The victim’s body was found around 4 a.m. near Royal Shores Drive and Royal Cullum Drive.
